What is MCT Coconut Oil?
As the name suggests, medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil contains medium-length chains of fats called triglycerides. Due to their shorter length, MCTs are easily digested and many health benefits are linked to the way your body processes these fats.
Benefits for Infections
Rencently, the antiviral effect of fullerene-liposome complex against influenza virus (H1N1) in vivo was studied. Results showed fullerenes significantly prolong mean time to death (MTD) and decrease mortality of H1N1 virus-infected mice. In a separate scientific study, the Anti-Influenza Activity of C60 Fullerene Derivatives was evaluated and researchers concluded that fullerenes derivatives are possible candidates for the development of novel anti-influenza drugs. Effects on HIV-1 virus was also investigated and researchers found that Fullerene Derivatives Strongly Inhibit HIV-1 Replication by Affecting Virus Maturation without Impairing Protease Activity.
In 2019, Russian scientists found: Fullerene compounds knock out virus infections.
Promotes Weight Loss
Taking MCT oil has been shown to significantly reduce body weight and waist circumference. Researchers even report that it could help prevent obesity.
Instant Source of Energy for the Brain
Alzheimer’s Disease
Alzheimer’s disease impairs your brain’s ability to use sugar. One study found that a single dose of MCTs improved short-term cognition in 20 people with Alzheimer’s disease.
Autism
One study found MCT oil may also help children with autism. Another study found that adding MCTs to a ketogenic and gluten-free diet substantially improved autism behaviors for 6 of the 15 children involved.
Fights Yeast and Bacterial Growth
MCTs have been shown to have antimicrobial and antifungal effects.
Coconut oil’s has the ability to reduce yeast and bacterial growth due to the caprylic, capric and lauric acid in MCTs.
MCTs themselves have also been shown to suppress the growth of a widespread infectious fungus in hospitals by up to 50%.
May Reduce Risk Factors for Heart Disease
MCT oil has been shown to support weight and fat loss. This may, in turn, help reduce your risk of heart disease. Moreover, MCT oil can also increase the production of heart-protective HDL or “good” cholesterol.
May Help Control Blood Sugar Levels
MCT oil may also have benefits for those with diabetes.
